Carl the Spider released!
Feb 28
Tagger Games’ Carl the Spider is now available in the iTunes app store, featuring original music by Lucky Lion Studios.
In Carl the Spider, you play as a lady bug catching, web slinging spider named (you guessed it) Carl. Your goal is to jump, swing and roll your way across each of the game’s 60 levels, collecting lady bugs along the way to increase your score.

The Music:
Carl the Spider soundtrack previewThe game’s levels are currently divided between The Grasslands and The Winterlands, each with their own unique art and musical style. Another great addition to both sections is the introduction of randomized weather (rain in The Grasslands and snow in The Winterlands) which brings with it its own unique music.
For The Grasslands, I predominantly used hand percussion, wind and reed instruments and pizzicato strings. I kept the mix and instrumentation small and somewhat minimal to give the songs a humble quality. The Winterlands’ music focuses more on staccato violins, mallet instruments and subtle piano with a slight increase in reverb and a generally colder vibe.
The game’s main theme was originally supposed to be much happier and upbeat, but ended up taking on a much more sentimental quality once I started working on it. In hindsight, this works great with Carl’s darker color scheme.
Overall this was a fun soundtrack to work on. It’s a small, cohesive collection of songs that compliment the art style perfectly.
